Last January 31st, the Ministry of Public Administration and Security (MOPAS) along with the National Information Society Agency (NIA) opened the E-Government Global Academy (eGGA) located at the NIA office in Deungchon-dong, Seoul.
In conjunction with the Official Grand Opening, a Global Cooperation Seminar took place at the NIA office in the afternoon of January 31. Highlighting the Grand Opening, the Minister of Korea’s Ministry of Public Administration and Security (MOPAS), Mr. Hyung-Kyu Maeng, was there for the tape-cutting ceremony along with heads of local international organization offices and ambassadors from some embassies in Seoul were there to commemorate the opening of the eGGA.
The Minister said in his congratulatory remarks that the eGGA will continue with the organization of education programs that the Korean government financially supports as to share Korea’s e-government experiences and learn from another going forward. The eGGA will invite policymakers, public officials, and experts in the IT field to share the newest technologies and issues to be reflected on national policies and plans in order to address welfare, poverty, economic, and educational challenges using IT oriented system tools. Participants who take part in the eGGA organized education and training program will take courses that will enable them to learn Korea || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || s IT development strategies, discuss current issues and trends, and seek means of cooperation to advance their nations || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || strategies on e-Governance, information security, rural informatization, and incorporation of new technologies.
Also in attendance at the opening ceremony were a list of dignitaries including; NIA Vice President, Kyung Sup Kim, Omar Al-Nahar, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Jordan to the Republic of Korea, Dominican Republic Ambassador to Korea, Grecia Fordalicia Pichardo and Alexei Tikhomirov, Head of UN Project Office on Governance.
After the opening ceremony, as mentioned a Global Cooperation Seminar took place at the location and over 100 people were in attendance where topics ranged from e-government consulting overseas under such sectors as mobile, m-government services, network infrastructure enhancement, cyber security, loan and grant programs under Korea’s Export-Import Bank and so on.
All in all, the opening of the e-Government Global Academy will only enhance Korea’s position as a world leader in the ICT industry and pave the way for sharing it’s knowledge and experiences with other countries.
