NIA President Gives Keynote Global ICT Summit 2013 in Japan

NIA President Seang-Tae Kim was invited to Tokyo, Japan to take part in In the sixth "Global ICT Summit 2013" under the theme of “Toward Exa-Scale Computing: The Evolving Social Information Society.” The Global ICT Summit was organized by Nikkei Inc. and Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) in Japan and the 2-day event took place on June 11-12th at Nikkei Hall in Tokyo.



Due to the penetration of new information and communication technologies, such as cloud computing and social media, into our society, the volume of digital information distributed and stored on the network is explosively growing and reaching the exa-byte level. We are now in the exa-scale computing era where sharing and utilizing of big data has a significant impact on not only individual life and corporate strategy, but government systems and services as well.



NIA President Kim was asked to give one of 3 keynote speeches in a session on Day 2 titled: “Solution of Social Issues led by the ‘Smart Revolution’ in the Exa-scale Computing era and International Collaboration.” More than 3000 people attended the summit over the 2 days with academic experts, research institute officials and civil servants in attendance. NIA President Kim’s keynote presentation focused on government policy successes in Korea that has led to the introduction of forward-looking policies and support for the establishment of a strong government leadership.



The session was chaired by: Mr. Shun Sakurai, Director-General, Global ICT Strategy Bureau, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Japan and other speakers besides NIA President Kim included; Mr. Staffan Ingvarsson, Vice CEO, City of Stockholm, Sweden, and Dr. Hoang Le Minh, Director, Vietnam National Institute of Software and Digital Content industry, Vietnam. After each of the keynotes, all 3 speakers took part in a panel discussion led by Ms. Makiko Yamada, Counselor, Global ICT Strategy Bureau, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Japan. During the Panel Discussion, topics that were brought forth for discussion included; new government success factors of e-government policy, e-government policy directions for future smart-intensive and how Korea was able to move from a developing country in terms of telecom and ICT to a world leader in the sector.



Meanwhile, after the Global ICT Summit was finished, NIA President Kim attended a meeting with the Japanese the Cabinet Secretariat - Director General of the Strategy Department of Information and Communication Technology and met with Koichi Endo (CIO) where they discussed and exchanged ideas in more detail about the ways to cooperate in order to realize smart Smart e-government policies and services for citizens.
