National Information Society Agency announced that Mr. Kwang-Soo Chang, former head of the Informatization Strategy Office of Ministry of Public Administration and Security (MOPAS), was appointed as the new President of the Agency starting the 14th of August, 2013.
During his post in the Informatization Strategy Office of Ministry of Public Administration and Security, Mr. Chang had directed the process of developing national informatization policies and making plans to achieve the future information society. Also having served as the President of the National Computing and Information Agency (NCIA), which performs integrated management of information resources of each government institution, President Chang is currently being recognized for his comprehensive knowledge and understanding on the issue of national informatization.
At the inauguration ceremony held at the NIA Hall on Wednesday the 14th, President Chang emphasized that “the recent changes in the IT environment can be summarized as a rapid shift to the super-connected society” and he “will step up the policy-planning features of the agency for leaping forward as the world-class agency for IT policy development and technical assistance, and also improve the organization and its HR system through open communication for all workers of the agency to be able to show their full capacity.”
The key strategic tasks presented by him at the ceremony included constructing of the Giga Internet and developing of information-communication converged services; expanding of the cutting-edge u-IT public services; installing and operating the Future Strategy Center and the Support Center for Public Data Use for achieving the creative economy; achieving a safe society based on ICT and resolving adverse effects of informatization; and providing support for IT export of domestic businesses through improved global IT cooperation.
Upon inauguration, President Chang started his first day at NIA by visiting the site for Big Data Pilot Project, which is currently being implemented as part of achieving the national goal of facilitating the creative economy, where he checked the progress and listened to the opinions from the front-line.
