The Ministry of Security and Public Administration of the Republic of Korea (MOSPA) and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) will host the 2nd Global e-Government Forum (GeGF2013) in Korea, to be held from 22nd to 23rd of October 2013, under the theme of “Smart Government, Smart Society: Openness, Sharing, Communication and Collaboration.” In particular, the Forum aims to achieve the following objectives: To share experiences and best practices on building e-Government and e-Governance at the national and global levels; To discuss and facilitate future directions for public policy on e-Government and e-Governance for people; To enhance co-operation and also develop inter-working mechanisms among e-Government stakeholders including policy makers, international and regional organizations, academia, and private sector.

In addition, there will be a High-Level Roundtable that will take place with participation of ministers (or vice-ministers) and heads of international organizations, and is expected to provide stimulating discussion as well as identify areas of cooperation for digital inclusion and e-government development. An exhibition will take place at the same time as GeGF and will showcase advanced e-Government services of Korea as well as innovative solutions from the private sector. Participants will be able to see and experience current best practices, new pilot service with utilizing creative smart technologies, and the latest innovations in service delivery using ICT.

One difference in this year’s Global e-Government Forum compared to last year’s event is that it will be co-located with the International Conference on e-Governance (ICEGOV) 2013. ICEGOV at its 7th iteration now, is one of the biggest policy/academic Conference in the area of e-Governance. The policy-focused and high-level nature of Global e-Government Forum combined with academic oriented ICEGOV promises to provide both broad and deep discussion of what being “smart” means not just at the government level but also for the private sector, and citizens in general.

Over 800 participants, high-level policy-makers, as well as government officials from around the world are expected to attend. Participants will include ministers or vice-ministers, managerial-level government officials, representatives from international and regional organizations, the academia, and the private sector. Ministers and vice-ministers who are responsible for e-Government are particularly pertinent.

As mentioned, the hosts of the Forum are; Ministry of Security and Public Administration of the Republic of Korea (MOSPA) and the United Nations Department for Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA). The National Information Society Agency (NIA) is once again the Global e-Government Forum 2013 official organizer. The Venue of the Global e-Government Forum is the Korea International Exhibition Center (KINTEX), located in Ilsan, a suburb city just outside of Seoul.
