- Publication of the 2023 NIA Global Best Practices in English -

The National Information Society Agency (NIA), led by President Hwang Jong-sung, has published the English version of of NIA Global Best Practices(“Innovations Unleashed: NIA Global Best Practices in Digitalization”) to disseminate the achievements of NIA in the digital field overseas.

The Republic of Korea, recognized globally as a leader* in digital innovation, has seen growing demand from developing countries for Korean-style ICT projects. This demand is based on Korea's extensive experience and credibility in ICT and digital government.

*UN E-Government Survey: Top 3 for seven consecutive assessments (2010-2022), OECD Open Data Index: 1st place for four consecutive assessments (2015, 2017, 2019, 2023), OECD Digital Government Index: 1st place (2019), World Bank Digital Government Evaluation: 1st place (2022)

In response, NIA identified 32 best practices in eight areas, including digital platform government, new digital order, public data, and digital government, to share these successes with countries interested in adopting Korean digital solutions.

In late December, the e-Book was first distributed to international organizations like the World Bank and the UN, as well as to high-ranking officials from developing countries. It will be further distributed to thousands of NIA's global partners.

The NIA Global Best Practices is expected to serve multiple purposes, including helping Korean IT companies explore new export opportunities, supporting domestic public institutions' ODA projects, and assisting foreign governments in their digital transformation efforts.

Moreover, the AI learning data construction process and usage details presented in the data section can serve as foundational resources for countries aspiring to build AI platforms, potentially fostering international collaboration projects.

One notable case is the "Public Service Automation (RPA) Project," a best practice in the section of the digital platform government. This project is being recognized as a tool for administrative efficiency in regions such as Asia and Latin America, potentially leading to the export of Korean RPA solutions through technical support.

Additionally, the AI learning data construction process and usage guidelines featured in the data section provide essential resources for countries aiming to develop AI platforms, encouraging international collaborative projects.

As a leading agency in digital and AI, NIA utilized large language model (LLM) platforms like ChatGPT to translate and review this publication, thus reducing both process and costs.

President Hwang Jong-sung of NIA expressed his hope that the publication would promptly share South Korea's digital achievements with developing countries, establishing a foundation for the global expansion of Korean digital solutions. He emphasized the significance of NIA staff's roles as ambassadors in digital international cooperation.

The NIA Global Best Practices can be found on the NIA website.
