The National Computerization Agency announced on June 19 that it was planning to start mobile RFID trial service of 900MHz broadband from October, for the first time in the world. When the service is launched, the RFID readers will be embedded in the cellular phones that each cellular phone can recognize RFID tags and provide the users a mine of information about products.

SK Telecom, the trial service provider, is preparing 'u-portal service' which will attach the RFID tags to record shops and allow the users to enjoy digital contents simply with the cellular phones.

KTF is also planning to offer 'u-station service' that users can get necessary information through LCD on cellular phones reading RFID tags attached to bus stations or other specific places. Another service that KFT will launch is 'u-commerce service' that users can pay or check using wireless internet by reading RFID tags attached to a product.

Both companies also plan to introduce more services closely related to daily life such as 'Taxi safety service', 'Tour guide service', 'Food information service', 'Beef origin inquiry service', and 'Medicine genuineness confirmation service'.

However, the external RFID reader attached to a cellular phone will be developed separately and will not be included in this trial service. The telecommunications industry forecasts that RFID reader-embedded cellular phones will be released next year and customers can also experience the mobile RFID services.
