Korea Information Infrastructure(KII) project has been finally completed after eleven years of government's effort to provide high-speed network infrastructure to public organizations.

The closing ceremony of KII project took place at the Shilla Hotel on February 28, hosted by the National Computerization Agency(NCA) and the Ministry of information and communications(MIC).

Around one hundred and thirty officials from main project involving agencies attended the ceremony including ChangKon Kim, the CEO of NCA, and JongEung Park, the CEO of Dacom.

Korea has actively launched KII project since 1995 with the object to establish back-bone network of high-speed to every government and pubic entity. Originally planned to be completed by 2010, the project has been early completed by the end of 2005 with the strong will of government.


Invested 800 million USD by government, this project established an optical transmission network linking 144 cities and an ATM network consisting of ATM switches. The economic benefit of this project is estimated to be worth four billion USD. It saved telecommunications cost in public sector of 3.4 billion USD and contributed to e-Government readiness worthy of one billion USD.


Consequently, KII project improved the efficiency of public administration and created twelve thousand job opportunities.
