World ICT Summit 2006 Opens May 26th
Experts in the IT sector from home and abroad gathered at the 'World ICT Summit' held at the Sheraton Walkerhill Hotel, Seoul on 26th of May, to seek cooperation measures by sharing each nations experience and vision on the role of Government and the development of telecommunications technology.
At this conference, there was a Ministerial Luncheon Meeting where Minsters and Vice Ministers from a total of 17 countries participated (6 Asian countries, 5 European countries, 2 African countries, 3 Latin American countries) and also a ICT Policy Forum where Ministers and Vice Ministers, and also global IT company CEOs participated as panelists. Also, 600 or so diplomatic envoy to Korea and prominent figures from home and abroad engaged in free discussions.
The Ministerial luncheon under the theme 'Government's Role for Desirable Digital Future' started with Minister Rho introducing the current Korean telecommunication policy, followed by in-depth exchange of opinions by IT Ministers on detailed themes such as growth engines, adverse effects and convergence of broadcasting and communication. The ICT policy forum proceeded in two parts, commencing with each Minister's presentation on each nation's ICT strategy. The ministers also actively engaged in discussions to find measures for global cooperation.
This year's ICT policy forum, which was held together with the 'Seoul Digital Forum 2006' was organized by SBS(Seoul Broadcasting System). By leading this international forum on the challenges and opportunity, the MIC will uplift the status of Korea as an IT powerhouse and will also be able to lead the cultural trend regarding IT.
