Latin America ICT Conference 2005
Latin America ICT Conference 2005
“Latin America ICT Conference 2005”
BACKGROUND
In November 2004, the representatives of the public and private sectors of
Latin America and Korea have gathered in Santiago, Chile, to discuss on closer
ICT cooperation at the ‘International ICT Conference in Latin America and the
Caribbean’. Hosted by Chile-Korea IT Cooperation Center (KORCHIL-ITCC) and
sponsored by the Chilean Ministry of Economy and the Korean Ministry of
Information and Communication, the Conference was a success with keen interests
and enthusiastic participation of more than 200 participants around the region,
including those from 3 international organizations, 6 countries, and 9 private
companies. They shared their experiences and learned how to take a step further
into the collaborative ICT advancement.
Based on the success of the Conference, it seems necessary to continue the
discussion on collaborative ICT advancement in the region. As countries in
transition, both Korea and Latin American countries are endeavoring to find
more efficient and effective ways to integrate ICT resources for better
planning and implementation of their national policies. In this respect, the
Korea-Mexico IT Cooperation Center (KORMEX-ITCC) came to propose the ‘Latin
America ICT Conference 2005’, under the theme focusing on ICT resource
integration.
