The Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Information Society of Spain visits the NIA

Delegates from the Spanish Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Society visited the National Information Society Agency on Wednesday. The Secretary of Sate, Francisco Ros is in Korea to attend the 2007 IT Ministerial Conference.








The meeting between Chang-Kon Kim, the president of the NIA and Secretary Ros provided an opportunity for sharing each other's experiences in the field of IT cooperation.




Senior researcher Doh-Yoon Kim gave a brief introduction of the NIA to give an idea of what the agency is about. It was followed by an overview of Korea's Broadband infrastructure and e-Government by Director of the Global Consulting Team, Jeongwon Yoon.




The Secretary expressed his interest in how the Broadband networks of Korea is structured. In particular, he asked about the competition between telecommunication operators and cable companies. Dr. Ros also asked how the government handles such issues as competition and intellectual property rights. In relations to e-Government, the Secretary showed interest in the e-Procurement system and digital certification.




President Kim stated that competition to lay out the Broadband convergence Network infrastructure is fierce as companies such as KT push to capture the future market, and it is not the government's role to involve itself directly in such matters as competition and intellectual property rights.
