NIA and KADO Merge to Create a Newly Formed National Information Society Agency
2009.08.14 COUNT 2168
On May 26, 2009, in a opening ceremony held at NIA, a new integrated National Information Society Agency was launched as the Korea Agency for Digital Opportunity and Promotion (KADO) and National Information Society Agency (NIA) merged together under the Korean government’s public sector restructuring plan. It should be noted that the English name for NIA (National Information Society Agency) will stay the same while the Korean name for the agency will be slightly changed to reflect the role of the reorganized agency.

Although both agencies in the past were dedicated to different roles and operations, both agencies have been working towards one goal: realization of Information Knowledge Power Korea. Now with the merge complete, NIA will continue in advancing and activating the world-class knowledge information infrastructure to a higher level, bridging the digital divide and preventing the adverse effects which may occur during the process, and improving information culture.

In total by merging together the staff of NIA and KADO, there are now a total of 276 people working together under one agency in Seoul as NIA will continue to seek and handle important national issues such as reviving economy, integrating society, and accomplishing the low carbon green growth through the synergy effect to be achieved by the merger of the two agencies.
