On June 17th, nine members affiliated with different Multi-lateral banks (MDBs) came to NIA for discussions with NIA dealing with ICT development programs that NIA has been involved in the past as well as possible areas for future work.
Multi-lateral banks are organizations based in different parts of the world that have a wide variety of programs and financial support to help less-developed countries and regions in all kinds of industries – from healthcare, education, sanitation, ICT, etc…
The multi-lateral banks represented at the meeting with NIA staff, including the President of NIA – Seang- Tae Kim, included; The World Bank, African Development Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank. The representatives from the MDBs hailed from the UK, Kenya, Guinea, Zimbabwe, Gambia, Brazil, Panama, Spain and Chile.
Discussions during the meeting pertained to NIA’s cooperation in the past with different MDBs and what areas NIA could work along with different MDBs in the future. President Kim gave a brief talk on how a knowledge-based infrastructure could help in solving some of the world’s pressing health issues such as clean drinking water and sufficient sanitation in different countries. With the recent merge between NIA and KADO, NIA’s international cooperation activities have been expanded into areas that encompass, ICT education, consulting, technical assistance, capacity-building, etc…The staff of the MDBs showed a keen interest in NIA’s experience and capabilities and new future agreements between NIA and MDBs will be further nurtured and developed.
