From August 15 to August 22, the President of NIA, Seang-Tae Kim made a 3-country business trip which saw him discuss information management for Green IT at the Government Information Forum, sponsored by FutureGov magazine in Hong Kong, Open an Internet Access Center in Venetian, Laos and have cooperation discussions with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in the Philippines.
The first stop for President Kim’s trip was Vientien, Laos where he visited the Laotian Science Technology & Environment Agency where a new Internet Access Center (IAC) opened with a Center for Skill Development (CSD). President Kim made some congratulatory remarks as well as taking part in the official tape cutting ceremony to open the new IAC that includes state-of-the-art computers, seminar rooms and an IT training facility.
President Kim’s second stop was in Hong Kong where he joined other esteemed speakers at the reputable Government Information Forum where he delivered a well-received presentation on Green IT for information management. Participants at this Forum hailed from Hong Kong, New Zealand, Malaysia, China, Australia and Korea.
The final destination was Manila, Philippines where President Kim thanked Ursula Schaefer-Preuss, Vice President for Knowledge Management and Sustainable Development and signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) for ICT Cooperation. Under the terms of this LOI, initiate projects for ICT capacity building for Vietnam, the Philippines and Mongolia can be realized. In the future, NIA experts can work together with personnel from the ADB in providing ICT consulting services to these countries.
