NIA Successfully Hosts the 2nd Korea - US ICT Policy Forum in Washington DC
On November 4th and 5th, NIA played host and organizer of the 2nd Korea - US ICT Policy Forum. This year’s Forum followed last year’s successful inaugural Korea - US ICT Policy Forum that was held in Seoul.
This year, the venue changed as it was held at the World Bank in Washington, DC. As mentioned, NIA played host and organizer and this year’s Forum was sponsored by Ministry of Public Administration and Security, The Center for Advanced Technology Strategy, The World Bank, The National Center for Digital Government and Intel.
This year’s Forum actually got underway on the evening before the actual Forum started as a kick-off meeting of Korea-U.S. ICT Cooperation Committee was held at the Occidental Grill restaurant. This was a closed meeting for members of selected high-level delegations from governments, academia and private companies from both respective countries.
As for the Forum at the World Bank, opening congratulatory remarks were made by the Ambassador of the Korea Embassy in USA - the Honorable Duk-soo Han, Richard Beaird, the Senior Deputy U.S. Coordinator for International Communications and Information Policy at the Department of State and Mohsen Khalil, the Director of Global Information and Communication Technologies (GICT) at the World Bank.
Keynote presentations by NIA President, Seang-Tae Kim, Jonathan Levy, Deputy Chief Economist of Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Professor Jung-Ho Park from Korea University got the Forum started well and provided the basis for 2 panel discussion sessions that delved deeper in ways for Korea and the U.S. to cooperate together in the area of ICT to not only help each of their respective countries but also serve as a way to help developing countries as well.
The other themes discussed throughout the Forum pertained to knowledge-based infrastructure, Green IT and mobile network infrastructure in developing countries.
In all, there were 2 main sessions and a special third session where approximately 70 participants attended the Forum. |
