Korea and Kuwait talk IT cooperation

The 2nd Korea-Kuwait IT Co-operative Committee Meeting was held on February 23rd, in Seoul at the Ministry of Public Administration and Security (MOPAS). The meeting was co-chaired by Vice Minister Kang, Byungkyu and Director General Mr. Al-Shuraidah of the Central Agency of Information and Technology (CAIT) of the Kuwait, and was attended by various representatives from both sides including the Deputy Director for Information Technology Sector of CAIT, Mr. Qusai Al-Shatti, Ambassador Mr. Muteb Al-Mutoteh of Kuwait Assistant Minister Mr. Jung Hyup Kang of the Informatization Strategy Office of MOPAS as well as Director Mr. Jeongwon Yoon of the Global Consulting and Cooperation Department of the National Information Society Agency.



The IT Co-operative Committee was set up by the MOU signed between the two parties in 2007, as a supervising body that would direct cooperation activities for the implementation of the MOU. As the 2nd Meeting of the Committee, the parties noted the progress of past activities including the IT Advisory Services rendered by MOPAS and NIA and discussed further cooperation projects including the establishment of the Kuwait-Korea IT Cooperation Center.



A consulting team composed of experts from NIA and the private sector visited Kuwait in January to provide technical assistance in various areas such as e-Authentication, Kuwait Information Network (KIN), and Kuwait Government Online (KGO). As the 1st of several more to come, the mission was dubbed a success, and the parties discussed future direction for the forthcoming missions.



Mr. Al-Shuraidah also paid a visit to NIA, where he met President Seang-Tae Kim and talked about areas of mutual interest. He praised Korea’s achievement in IT development especially taking the 1st rank in the UN e-Government index, and expressed his hopes for continued cooperation between the two nations. President Kim replied in kind, and echoed the Director General’s sentiment on strengthening a mutually beneficial bilateral relationship.
