Digital Development Forum Held in Costa Rica in November

Korea's Ministry of Public Administration and Security (MOPAS) and the National
Information Society Agency (NIA) took part in the Digital Development Forum (DDF)
that was held in San Jose, Costa Rica this past November 29-30. This DDf's theme
was, "Towards the Smart e-Government." High level government officials
from not only Korea and Costa Rica were there but Ministers and those in change
of e-government from Honduras, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua
and other Central American countries attended along with over 200 other participants
over the 2-day event.

The Digital Development Forum (DDF) is a global network comprised of IT experts
from both public and private sectors. It is designed to promote multilateral
cooperation for national informatization and e-governance. Its aim is to create
an international arena where the international community can share knowledge
and experiences in order to build a more inclusive information society. The
DDF supports both regional and international cooperation to improve access to
information and communication infrastructure and technologies, share and exchange
knowledge and experience, build human develop and utilize ICT applications and
services, increase confidence and security in the use of ICTs and foster technology
exchange and transfer.


Opening and keynote addresses at the DDF were made by high-level officials
from NIA and also Mrs. Clotilde Fonseca, the Minister of Science and Technology
of Costa Rica. Other remarks and addresses were made by representatives from
the Digital Government Director and from the Inter-American Development Bank.


Regarding e-government high-level talks in Central America, five countries,
including Costa Rica took part and participated in forums where some of the
issues involving the deployment of e-government were discussed in depth. In
addition, more than 50 Latin American IT companies attended the discussion meetings
as well as Korean companies like Samsung SDS, LG CNS, Korea Minting & Security
Printing Corporation, Winitech and other IT companies. These companies were
involved in B2B meetings with local companies in order to build some strong
cooperation and collaboration with local IT companies in the region.
