Korea may not have the most economic clout or influence as other nations in the Group of 20, but it leads the pack when it comes to information technology.
The National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) that operates under the Ministry of Knowledge Economy (MKE), released a report in January that ranks Korea highly in several IT areas compared to other G-20 nations. NIPA || chr(39) || || chr(39) || s report stated that the Korean IT industry has matured and there could be new possibilities in areas of collaboration and market entry in the IT industry.
According to data from IDC, a U.S.-based research firm, the NIPA report makes note that G-20 countries accounted for 83 % of the world || chr(39) || || chr(39) || s IT industry last year. It also notes that Korea came in fourth among G-20 nations in the Digital
Economy Rankings, an annual list compiled by the in-house research unit of The Economist magazine that assess the influence of IT on a country || chr(39) || || chr(39) || s economy and society. Korea trailed just the United States, Australia and Canada in this regard.
"Korea is particularly known for its well-established telecommunicationsinfrastructure and the high usage of this infrastructure but Korea must still explore new businesses and markets in order to further raise its global competitiveness," stated the report.
