e-Government Global Symposium Successfully Held in Seoul

On June 8-9, the Ministry of Public Administration and Security (MOPAS) hosted the e-Government Global Symposium that was jointly organized with the National Information Society Agency (NIA).



The purpose of the e-Government Global Symposium was to provide opportunities to both expand and strengthen global cooperation through discussions between regional governments, international organizations as well as the private sector so as to contribute to bridging the global digital divide. Since Korea ranked first in

the 2010 UN e-Government Survey and 3 projects just receiving UN Public Administration Awards this year.



The e-Government Global Symposium was held at the Lotte Hotel in downtown Seoul with MOPAS sponsoring it along with the UN Project Office on Governance (UNPOG). Vice Minister of MOPAS, Nam Seok Kim welcomed all the participants which included such noted foreign speakers and panelists such as the Italian e-Government Chief,

Francesco Beltrame, the president of DigitPA in Italy, UNCEPA members, Dr. Siripurapu Kesavarao Rao of the Administrative Staff College of India and Dr. Gwendoline Anne Williams from Trinidad and Tobago to name a few. In total, more than 30 people attended the Symposium.



During the sessions, some of the topics broached included regional e-Government development, both currently and the challenges that lie ahead. In addition, e-government development cooperation among different international organizations and governments was also discussed and on day 2 of the symposium, NIA vice president, Jung-hyup

Kang delivered a key note speech on the impact of Infrastructure on e-Government diffusion in Korea. On the last day of the Symposium, the foreign attendees went on a field trip to Dejeon and paid a visit to the Korean Government || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || s National Computing and Information Agency.



At the conclusion of the Symposium, attendees gave their support to the Korean organizers and plans to make the e-Government Global Symposium an annual and larger scale were discussed for the future.
