NIA Takes Part in e-Smart World Asia 2012

From January 17 -20th, NIA staff were part of a Korean delegation that went to the Philippines and attended the e-Smart World Asia 2012 that was held in Manila, the Philippines on January 18th- 19th, 2012. The e-Smart World Asia 2012 was hosted by the Korea || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || s Ministry of Knowledge Economy and organized by KOTRA (Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency). Along with participation in the e-Smart World Asia, NIA took part in government to government discussions with the Philippines government on IT cooperative areas of interest.
The e-Smart World Asia event has a purpose of bringing cooperation in building an information society in the Asia region. There was a good opportunity for sharing experiences conversance and cases of Information Society. Other areas of cooperation during the event included; Public IT Service, Networking and Broadcasting, etc… NIA was part of a 20+ member Korean delegation and Dohyoon Kim, Senior Manager of the Global Planning and Consulting Department gave a presentation during the opening session of the e-Smart World Asia event. His presentation was an introduction of Public IT Policies and Introduction of Korea || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || s e-Government. There were also other business meetings that took place during the event and then included a meeting with a delegation from the Prime Minister Office of Bangladesh and another meeting with Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam.
In addition, while in the Philippines, NIA officials met with the Philippine ICTO (ICT Office) for preliminary discussions on cooperation for a government Information Data Center (GIDC) and other IT areas of mutual interest. The ICT Office is under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and during the meeting there were fruitful discussions that took place with the Undersecretary of DOST and Head of the ICTO, Louis Napoleon Casambre.
The participation in the e-Smart World Asia 2012 and other business meetings held in Manila will pave the way for future IT cooperation in 2012 and beyond.
