The 4thAnnual NIA – SKKU Global Cooperation Internship Concludes

Now on its fourth year, a global cooperation program between NIA and Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) just concluded on February 10, 2012. In total, 20 international graduate students who are currently in the midst of SKKU || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || s Global Masters of Public Administration program were assigned 4 week posts in the Global Cooperation Division of NIA back starting back in January.



An orientation session kicked things off on January 9that NIA where NIA || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || s President - Seang-Tae Kim warmly welcomed the students and NIA was introduced along with some time for introductions of both the students and also mentors currently working at NIA who will help guide and be of assistance to the students during their working stay at NIA.



President Kim mentioned in his opening and welcoming remarks that although 4 weeks was not a long period to learn and know everything about NIA and its various work-related activities however the students did have a good opportunity to discuss issues and their areas of interest with their mentors, experts and other colleagues around them at NIA. President Kim went on to add that everyone had the chance to learn from one another and it was a great opportunity to be a starting point to build up a relationship with the students || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || respective countries.



After the opening ceremony, NIA President Seang-Tae Kim, Executive Director of NIA || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || s Global Cooperation Division, Jeongwon Yoon and Cheung Moon Cho, Director of NIA || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || s Global e-Competency Center and other NIA staff went with the interns and walked along the Chonggye Stream and visited the Kwang-Jang traditional market in order to share a meal and talk some more. The interns welcomed this opportunity to bond and appreciated the NIA president taking the time out of his busy schedule to spend time with the interns.



The countries that the students were from included; Cambodia, Cameroon, Egypt, Fiji, Honduras, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan , Mongolia, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Rwanda, Tanzania, Tunisia, the Philippines, Uganda,Vietnam and Yemen. All of the SKKU students hold prominent public service positions in their respective countries and are not only learning from one another but learning first hand Korea || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || s experiences with regard to ICT and e-government.



The program, which just wrapped up its 4thyear of existence, was a good experience for everyone involved with everyone having the opportunity to learn from one another. At the final session, 2 special awards were handed out to two of the interns for their hard work and contributions. Receiving these awards included; Ms. Michelle Cinthia Jimenez Velasquez from Honduras and Mr. ShahidFarooq of Pakistan were presented their awards and congratulated by NIA President Seang-Tae Kim at the closing ceremony. President Kim also presented certificate of completions to all participates at the close of the program.
