NIA President Meets with Macedonia’s Agency for Electronic Communications (AEC) Director in Skopje

On April 1st, just ahead of taking part in the Broadband Commission' s 5th Meeting in Ohrid, NIA President, Seang-Tae Kim held discussions with Macedonia's telecommunication regulator - Agency for Electronic Communications (AEC) as well as a press conference with the Macedonian media.



The meeting was held on Sunday morning from 10:30 - 12:30 at the AEC headquarters in Skopje and present on the Macedonia side was Robert Ordanoski, Director of AEC, Vladimir Ristevski, Head of the Cabinet, Sinisa Apostoloski, Advisor of Telecommunications and Elizabeta Dvojakova, Head of International Affairs. From NIA, President of NIA, Seang-Tae Kim and Gregory Pokorny, Principal Manager of Global Planning and Consulting Department.



The meeting started with greetings and introductions by AEC and NIA and the Director of AEC, Robert Ordanoski thanked NIA for visiting and mentioned it was a special pleasure to have a Korean delegation visit NIA - the first Korean visitors to their agency ever. The director went on to add what has been going on at AEC including its history and Macedonia' s telecommunication history as well, including Macedonia being a candidate country for the European Union (EU). AEC is working now from the beginning of a 5-year plan that includes developing a regulatory strategy and action plan for AEC for the period of 2012-2016, evaluating state of competition on electronic communications markets in Macedonia and develops a 5 year regulatory strategy for AEC.



NIA President, Seang-Tae Kim then made his own opening remarks on behalf of NIA and Korea that included thanking AEC for the opportunity to visit their agency on Sunday and despite there being no official diplomatic ties between Korea and Macedonia, he truly believes that this is a fine opportunity to become closer and establish the first footprints for both countries becoming closer in the area of ICT.



NIA President Kim went on to talk about Korea' s wealth of experience in ICT cooperation and know-how that includes construction of Information Access Centers that improve the information access environment in 28 developing countries. He also stated that the there is a lot of positive work that Macedonia' s Information Society and Administration Minister Ivo Ivanovski is setting up along with a population that is embracing IT, he is sure Macedonia will become in due time, a leader in the region for the knowledge-information society. President Kim' s final thoughts that concluded his remarks were that the meeting was a good starting point in opening up communication channels between the two organizations that will surely enhance the cooperation between two countries in the area of ICT and e-government. NIA President Seang-Tae Kim felt good that he could help pave the way to better relations with Macedonia and open up a new channel for closer ICT cooperation.



After the meeting was completed, a National Press Conference was held with Macedonia' s state broadcast media (4 or 5 national broadcasters) all present. AEC Director - Robert Ordanoski made a statement about a new beginning and bilateral ICT communication channel being agreed upon and then NIA President Seang-Tae Kim made a statement in the press conference about Korea being willing to share its knowledge, know-how and experience with Macedonia in order to cement closer relations between the 2 countries.



Overall the meeting was very successful with AEC and NIA President, Seang-Tae Kim all very pleased with the response and outcome.
