On April 5, 2012 in Katmandu, Nepal, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Collaboration in the field of Information and Communication Technologies was signed between National Information Society Agency (NIA) and the Nepal Research and Education Network (NREN).



At the official signing ceremony, NIA President, Seang-Tae Kim and NREN Chairman, Dr. Bhushan Raj Shrestha were both present and signed on behalf of their respective organizations. Since NIA operates the Korea Advanced Research and Education Network (KOREN), the MOU was established for a period of 3 years in order to cement the view to collaborate on advanced information and communications research in order to promote closer cooperation and exchange of information between NIA and NREN.



Collaboration would include R&D on advanced technologies including sharing testbed environment, applied research including medical collaborations and other user-driven innovation areas, monitoring and measuring tools, etc…Mutual interests in projects would be actively sought in ICT as well as the exchange of information and human resources for joint research experiments could also be forms of collaboration.



During his congratulatory address, NIA president Seang-Tae Kim thanked NREN for organizing the ceremony and he went on to talk about Korea || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || s vast experience and know-how in the ICT sector including KOREN || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || s start back in 1995. In addition, the TEIN initiative for ICT collaboration between Asia and Europe back in 2000 with the 3rd phase now connecting Korea and Nepal at 45 Mbps. After congratulatory addresses were all finished, a successful demonstration on co-work in telemedicine between Seoul National University of Bundang Hospital and the Nepal Model Hospital was done over the TEIN3 network.
