European Union Vice President Visits NIA during Asia Business Trip to Promote Cooperation

On May 16, 2012, the Vice President of the European Commission, Maros sefsovis visited NIA as he stopped in Korea as a part of his Asia business tour that saw him visit China in order to meet China || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || s State Councilor to assess the February E China Summit. During his stay in Korea, he visited
NIA first to learn more about NIA || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || s activities in e-government and its role in Korea || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || s informatization development.


 


Some of the discussions that the EU Vice President and his delegation had with NIA Management and staff involved security and digital signatures and how Korea goes about making delivered e-government services secure especially with regards to e-commerce and banking. It is a big challenge
in the EU in order to get all the member states to use one standard such as the case here in Korea where PKI is effectively utilized. Discussions also turned to new ICT technologies and the importance of digital agenda for the global development.


 


NIA President Seang-Tae Kim discussed with the Vice President sefsovis about the Smart Society and how the Korean government is making efforts to streamline its e-government services so as to take advantage of the smart society where people are using smart phones more than ever and need

to access services anytime and anywhere. Finally there was mutual agreement that E Korea interdependence in various fields is increasing at this time and that both the EU and Korea should do their utmost to reach global objectives and further development economic cooperation between the EU
and Korea.


 


After NIA, EU Vice President sefsovis visited the Korean Prime Minister || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || s Office and then met the Ministry of Public Administration and Security Vice Minister where he stated he was impressed by the progress of e-Government services delivered by Korea, which is the world || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || s leader according to

the UN e-Government Survey. He reminded NIA as well as the Vice Minister that 7 out of the top 10 countries in that charter are from the EU, and that all EU member states see the benefits of a better and more efficient e-Government. Before leaving Korea, he also gave a speech on Europe || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || || chr(39) || s response to the crisis at Yonsei University.
