Only July 12, 2012, a delegation from Uzbekistan' s government came to NIA for a visit in order to learn more about e-Government and further ICT cooperation development between Uzbekistan and Korea.
The delegation from Uzbekistan included 15 government officials from Uzbekistan' s Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Economy, Uzbekistan' s Central Bank, Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, State Tax Committee and son on.
The visit served the purpose of learning more about Korea' s e-government services as well international collaboration projects initiated by NIA. The delegation was invited to Korea by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) so the visit to NIA came at a good time to learn a bit
more and review some of the information that they had heard in their earlier training sessions at KOICA.
During the meeting, NIA Senior Manager, Mun-Jeong Won presented a brief introduction of NIA and its global activities and then NIA' s Dr. Woonsuk Suh, Executive Principal presented Korea success cases and best practices in regards to Korea' s e-government. During the discussion session after
the presentations, the Uzbek delegation pinpointed areas they were interested in and what they could learn from Korea. These areas included the budget and contributions of IT to Korea' s economic growth where the Korean government contributed about 1% of the national budget to e-government development. Other areas of interest included public procurement in Korea and whether foreign companies were able to bid for public IT projects. This was answered that it was possible only after they were registered and had adhered to the necessary protocols and qualifications of bidding on such projects.
All in all, the session was very informative and they mentioned that some of the ideas would be incorporated and studied further so as to be put in place and utilized back in Uzbekistan.
