
On September 25, 2012, a delegation from the Republic of Sudan’s National Information Center visited NIA to discuss and share experiences in the field of e-government and explore the possibility of further cooperation in the future between the two sides.
The Sudanese NIC delegation was led by Mr. Mubarak Mohamed Ahmed, General Manager of NIC. In addition, other officials included Mr. Badreldin Musa Hamad and Mr. EltayebKhareef Mohammed. Heading NIA was Executive Director of NIA’s Global IT Cooperation Division - Dr. Jeongwon Yoon.
The meeting allowed the opportunity for the Sudanese to introduce its National Information Center (NIC) to NIA. It was established according to a particular article in 1999, which was later modified in 2010. NIC is a consultative body in the State, in the field of IT. It works in several sectors such as: infrastructure, applications, standards, promotion informatization industry, coordination between partners in ministries, governmental units, as well as institutions, bodies in both private and public sectors, in addition to civil society organizations. In addition to the sectors that the NIC is involved in, it also has specialized units, including; Information Security Unit, GIS Unit, Open Source Unit, Training Unit, R&D Unit and a Data Center Unit.
During the meeting with NIA, mutual areas of interest were discussed with regards to e-government. Some of the projects discussed or questions that the Sudanese NIC delegation asked pertained to Korea’s experience in computerizing national archives, e-Health, education information systems and data center management. Dr. Jeongwon Yoon talked about Korea’s experience in these areas and how Korea’s e-Government Act encompassed various issues and was used to facilitate projects for materializing e-government, improveproductivity, transparency, and democracy of administrative agencies, and ultimately improve the qualityof lives of citizens in the knowledge information age by providing for fundamental principles, procedures,promotion methods, and other relevant matters for the electronic processing of administrative works.
The meeting ended with a promise to continue to work together in order to realize further cooperation in the area of ICT in the future.
