Back on September 24, 2012 and October 12, 2012, Korean government officials and NIA staff were in two different countries - Panama and Myanmar for opening

ceremonies of two new Information Access Centers.



On September 24th, 2012 at an opening ceremony held in the City of Knowledge (Panama City), the new Panama-Korean Information Access Center (IAC) was established. The new Information Access Center in Panama provides access to Internet, includes an Internet lounge for local residents to use for ICT education purposes and a seminar room to host both domestic and international events. Hardware, computer and video-conferencing equipment is provided as well which will go a long way in helping to bridge the digital divide in Panama and connect Panamanians with different information communication technologies.



The opening ceremony was included attendance by Kwangsoo Chang, Assistant Minister at the Ministry of Public Informatization and Security (MOPAS) and Jungsoo Doo, Korea Ambassador to Panama. From Panama, Mr. Eduardo E. Jaen, General Administrator of the National Authority for Governmental Innovation was there as well and they had a meeting where Assistant Minister Chang stated that he expects that IT cooperation between Korea and Nepal could be promoted and activated through the establishment of the Korea - Panama IAC and also that Korea would give positive consideration to dispatch IT experts that could strongly support Panama in IT ODA projects such as Korean Internet Volunteers (KIV) and Korea Information Learning (KoIL) training programs in order to share experiences regarding informatization building experiences of Korea.



Meanwhile, on October 12th, in Nay Pyi Taw, another IAC opening ceremony was held with approximately 100 participants in attendance. Hyung Kyu Maeng, Minister of MOPAS with Hae-yong Kim, Korean Ambassador to Myanmar also in attendance represented the Korean side and Thein Tun, Minister of Ministry of Communications, Posts and Telegraphs represented the Myanmar side during the opening of the Myanmar-Korea IAC. After the inauguration ceremony a short bilateral ministerial meeting was held where possible more future bilateral ICT cooperation was discussed between the two Ministers. The IAC is located at the Nay Pyi Taw Central Post Office and is heralded as an opening of a bright ICT cooperation between the 2 countries.
